Careers

The Careers / Work Related Learning provision at St Gregory’s enables students to develop the skills and knowledge needed to prepare them effectively for the transition from school in to the world of work/adult life.
Every student at St Gregory’s is given the opportunity to explore and learn about their personal strengths and weaknesses and develop the skills needed to pursue their future plans. This is delivered in a wide variety of subject areas as well as an integral part of the PSHE provision in the school.
This is further facilitated by a range of specific activities at each key stage of a student’s school career.

  • KS 3. Subject choices at 13+ GCSE/Vocational
  • KS 4. Post 16 options A Level/Further Education/Employment/Apprenticeships
  • KS 5. Post 18 options Further /Higher Education/UCAS/Employment

Support and guidance is further enhanced by the Prospects service who provide St Gregory’s with a Personal Adviser who is based in the school 1 day a week. The Prospects adviser is available during normal school hours and each student in KS 4 and KS 5 is given the opportunity to have a one to one interview. They also provide group sessions with students at KS 3 and support and guidance in preparation for the process of choosing subjects at KS4. The Prospects adviser is able to provide confidential, impartial information and advice in order to enable each student to make informed decisions about their future career path.

St Gregory’s fully supports the statutory requirement for students to have direct access to other providers of further education training, technical training and apprenticeships.  The school will comply with the new legal requirement to put on at least six encounters with providers of approved technical education qualifications or apprenticeships. This will be done in assemblies throughout the course of the academic year, options evenings, Maximise evenings and assemblies in National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week, in addition to providers attending careers events at school.

Students at St Gregory’s also have the opportunity to take part in a number of Careers / Work Related Learning activities at KS 4 which include preparation of CVs / Letters of Application and Mock Interviews. Enterprise activities also form an integral part of the KS 4 curriculum and are organised in conjunction with local business enterprise providers and the local Education Business Partnership with which the school has active links throughout the academic year.

As a school we are members of Unifrog, which provides all of our students with online access to a wide range of career related resources and activities, to support the students in their careers education.

KS5 students are also prepared for the transition into higher education, apprenticeships, training and employment.

All students are given the opportunity to undertake a period of work experience in the summer term of year 12 and have the opportunity to undertake a careers interview.

The school also has a range of resources which are available to students in the careers room, school library and sixth form study area.
