Design and Technology is a creative and exciting area of study in the school.
Aims and Philosophy:
It is the Department’s aim to provide a very safe, friendly, happy working environment, where every student can achieve his/her full potential. Design and Technology equips students with ‘real life’ skills and knowledge, which will enable them to contribute to an increasingly technological society.
In KS3 there are 4 specialist areas: Food, Textiles, Resistant Materials and Graphics. Electronics is also incorporated into certain projects.
Students cover five project strands of Research, Design ideas, Planning of Making, Making and Evaluation. Pupils work to set design briefs and also carry out focussed practical tasks and learn a wide range of technical and creative skills.
At KS4, students build on the skills they have developed and choose one of the following specialist subject areas:

This Year a new course has been introduced to students in Year 10.
NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Nutrition and Health (Healthy Eating)
(This Course is equivalent to a B at a GCSE Grade)
Aims:
The qualification is ideal for learners who are interested in improving their understanding of nutrition and healthy eating. Using the information they learn in the course they are encouraged to analyse their own eating habits and improve them. This qualification is also the basis for further study or career development.
In this qualification students sit three Unit Tests:
Unit 1: Exploring the principles of Healthy Eating
Unit 2: Consider the nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
Unit 3: Use Food and nutrition Information to Plan a healthy diet.
