PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Staff

The department consists of 4 full time members of staff; a full time teacher/SSCo; an admin/support assistant and 3 part time members of staff. We are part of the Kingsbury School Sports Partnership.

Curriculum
Pupils at Key Stage 3 have 2x1 hour lessons per week including games, gymnastics, dance, and athletics.
Some pupils are also involved in ‘Living for Sport’, a Leadership initiative funded by Sky Sports.
At Key stage 4 pupils have 1.5 hours per week and some are involved in the Sports Leaders Level 1 Award in. In addition to activities on site, pupils are transported to the local leisure centre where they participate in squash, badminton and fitness training.
Physical Education is popular at GCSE and we offer the Edexcel course, whilst the A/S and A2 students follow the OCR syllabus.
In Year 12 pupils are given the opportunity to take up the Sports Leaders Level 2 Award course as well as participate in recreational activities on a Wednesday afternoon.

Extra Curricular Activities
There is a wide variety of activities on offer before, during and after school as well as a commitment to sporting activities within the Borough and SSP. Additional activities are organised for the Gifted and Talented pupils as well as trips to sporting events.

Resources
Although somewhat lacking in facilities, we are a very well resourced department both in terms of sports equipment and classroom teaching aids.

Physical Education is a popular subject across all key stages and participation is close to 100%. Expectations of pupil behaviour are high and excellent standards of discipline are maintained by all members of the department.
