St. Gregory's gets surprise visit from School's Minister
St. Gregory's Catholic Science College got an unexpected visit from School's Minister, Nick Gibb last Wednesday (7 July) after he'd decided it was the perfect location to launch new government plans to give more powers to head teachers and teaching staff to discipline students.
The school was recently identified in a government report as one of the top 20 in England in terms of the high attendance levels and positive behaviour of its pupils - earning it the status of Lead Behaviour (LB) school - and during his visit, the Minister was keen to discover the recipe for St. Gregory's success from students and staff.
The school's head boy and head girl cited its emphasis on neat uniform and students standing when teachers enter classrooms as helping to contribute - along with St Gregory's excellent rewards scheme which also promoted and encouraged good behaviour.
After talking at length with students, Mr Gibb took the opportunity to sample some of the school's active learning activities during his two hour visit.
St. Gregory's head teacher, Andy Prindiville, said: "It was a real honour to host the Minister's visit and I was very proud of the students who spoke so eloquently and really represented the school well. Mr Gibb was impressed with the excellent standards he'd seen at St. Gregory's and I think the students were really pleased to have been able to meet him and talk about how very proud they were of their school."
