Mathematics
The mathematics department gives pupils fantastic opportunities to make the most of their education. The pupils benefit from; on line learning accounts, clubs, revision classes and much more.  There are 8 full time teachers and a further part time member of staff, all of whom are mathematics specialists.

Key stage 3
The syllabus that pupils in years 7 to 9 follow covers all key objectives outlined in the national strategy and has recently been adapted to meet new statutory requirements. Pupils are taught in ability banded classes that best suit their individual needs. Each year group has a designated LSA who supports those pupils most in need of more direct assistance. At the upper ability range pupils have access to a Gifted and Talented club and compete in the UK maths challenge annually.

Key stage 4
All year 10 and 11 pupils follow the Edexcel GCSE syllabus. Our most able pupils complete the linear 1380 specification with all other pupils following the modular 2381 course. Pupils who need extra support with their Maths also study Functional Skills which delivers mathematical content in a more practical context. All pupils receive additional support during key exam times with after school, Saturday and Easter revision sessions.

Post 16
Students who achieve a B or higher at GCSE can take AS/ A-Level Mathematics. Our most gifted mathematicians also have the option of additionally studying for the Further Mathematics qualification. We currently have 6 post 16 teaching staff and are developing the remainder of our department to meet the needs of our ever growing sixth form.
