Augustine House - St John’s Mission

Augustine House has as its charity St John’s Mission in Hwange, Zimbabwe. The mission runs both an orphanage and a school. During Lent pupils in the house undertook many activities which raised £1000.
The continuing political turmoil in Zimbabwe has resulted in economic upheaval with the annual rate of inflation surging to 2,200,000% and high levels of unemployment. Schools are severely under funded or not funded at all. Father Tim Peacock runs the mission and has used our money to buy basic facilities for his school and neighbouring schools

Benedict House - CAFOD

The charity we raise funds for in St. Benedict’s House is CAFOD. Representatives from CAFOD take Assemblies and lead PHSE sessions to keep us informed of current developments and projects. During Lent members of the house raise money by taking part in a wide range of events including fun runs, healthy cake sales, sponsored silences, football and basket tournaments. The total raised during Lent is typically over £2.000

Our House prayer is

“Living God,
We believe in a world made new,
Where mourning is turned into dancing and slaves are set free.
Open our hearts and teach us your compassion so that we may work for justice and peace.
Guide us as we work for your kingdom here on earth, that we may know your kingdom in heaven.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen”

J.McNulty (Head of St.Benedict House)

Hume House - The Passage

Hume House is unique in that it is named after Cardinal Archbishop Hume.    Throughout his life he remained a humble man preferring a monk’s habit instead of Cardinal’s robes and is particularly remembered for his work with the homeless, hence the choice of The Passage as the charity for Hume House to support.  The Passage runs the largest voluntary sector day centre for homeless people in London. Mr Clarke, the Chief Executive of The Passage, has written to Hume House pupils to thank them for their donation of £1,670.35 saying that it would help achieve The Passage’s mission of “providing resources which encourage, inspire and challenge homeless people to transform their lives.”

Joseph House - St Joseph's Centre

Our house is named after St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre in Hendon which dedicates itself to educating, developing and supporting those with learning difficulties, many of whom have profound multiple disabilities. The Centre works with anyone who has a learning difficulty and requires help, regardless of faith, race, age, background or culture.

During Lent 2009, St Joseph’s House raised over £1200 by sponsored run, pens sale, Wii competition and a Lenten raffle. Mrs Hibbert also raised over two hundred pounds in sponsorship, for completing the Great London Run in July.

Well Done Joseph House on all your excellent efforts this year. Keep up the good work next year.

Bernadette House - Lourdes Pilgrimages

Our lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous on a total of eighteen occasions during 1858 in a small village in the south-western region of France called Lourdes. The water from the original spring has the power to bring healing, the torchlight processions and prayers are world renown.

We are very proud of the two pilgramages that Bernadette House supports at St Gregory's. One with the HCPT a trust that support's groups who travel to Lourdes at Easter time bringing children with addition needs to give them 24 hour care. The sixth form are trained in how to care for the specific needs of the young before travel. The second is with the Westminister Diocese, sixth formers travel in the summer to help those who
are in Lourdes on their own pilgramage and need help and support in their day to day activities - we are very proud of the wonderful work the sixth form carry out - Chritians living out Christ's message.

Mary House - St Luke's Hospice

Mary House continues to actively support their local charity during Lent – St. Luke’s Hospice. Members of the fund raising team came to two assemblies to talk about the work of the Hospice and the costs involved.

Pupils raised money in a variety of ways – sponsored activities, silences, runs, selling raffle tickets, cake sales and selling badges.

St Luke's Hospice

St. Luke’s invited a group of pupils to the Hospice, where they ran a
workshop about fundraising and the work the Hospice does.

At the end of Lent, we invited a representative into the school to be
presented with a cheque for nearly £1,358. Well done Mary House for your
excellent efforts!
