At Key stage 3 pupils learn a wide range of drama skills within a variety of styles and genres.  Drama also provides a unique opportunity for the development of group work, communication and thinking skills that benefit other subject areas as well as exploring spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues in a safe environment.
At Key Stage 3 topics include:

  • The Works – covering a range of Drama skills and giving students a firm grounding for their Drama education.
  • Anti-Smoking – using Drama to explore issues through Role Play
  • Physical Theatre – communication through physicality and body language
  • Medieval Theatre – exploring Religious Drama and the use of Stock Characters
  • The Disposable Ones – exploring the work of the church charities to help the homeless children of South America
  • Sister Act 2 – A whole class production
  • Devising Project– workshop based Drama devising using a stimulus.

KS4

We are also proud to offer 2 courses at GCSE level, GCSE Drama and BTEC Performing Arts.
The GCSE Drama course has been a popular option with students. The course looks at the exploration and development processes with students completing practical and written tasks that are assessed internally and moderated. The final practical exam gives pupils a chance to bring their skills together in one final performance. As well as developing their Drama skills, the course also gives student a range of skills that they will take with them in any career pathway as well as providing practical and creative opportunities.

The Performing Arts BTEC is purely coursework based in which students study modules in Drama, Music and Dance. All work is marked within the centre and each unit consists of practical tasks supported by a written portfolio. The BTEC Performing Arts course has seen excellent results in the previous 2 years with 100% of students achieving the equivalent of 2 or 4 A*-C grades at GCSE level.
