Art Department
Offers GCSE Fine Art and A Level studies in Fine Art

  • A course delivered over two years which includes an:
  • Exploratory period over two terms that enables practicing techniques, processes and mediums and developing skills.
  • Artist studies and gallery visits.

The GCSE Coursework and External Exam studies completed over the remaining four terms

  • Painting
  • Assemblages
  • Photography
  • Drawing
  • Printing
  • Sculpture

External exam reflects six weeks of intense research and a personal outcome.

 

AS Fine Art

AS Fine Art is a two unit course over 1 year.

  • Unit 1. A thematically developed enquiry of a student’s personal proposal which forms 60% of the marks over three terms.
  • Unit 2. An externally set theme from a choice of ten different starting points which is researched over sixteen weeks culminating in a five hour exam that forms 40% of the AS course marks.   

A full ‘A’ Level can only be achieved with a pass in both AS and A2, four units in all.
However AS can be completed as a discrete award on its own.

Artwork reflects a wide range of ideas, research, techniques and personal statements.

 

A2 Fine Art

A2 Fine Art is a two unit course over 1 year.
Unit 3. A personal theme, that develops a student’s personal proposal and includes a Special Study of 3000 words. This forms 60% of the marks over three terms.
Unit 4. An externally set theme from a choice of ten, researched over sixteen weeks culminating in a five hour exam which forms 40% of the AS course marks.

A full ‘A’ Level can only be achieved with a pass in both AS and A2, four units in all.
